PSALM 1
Psalm 1 is a psalm of comfort. It admonishes us to gladly hear and learn God’s Word and brings us the comfort that, in so doing, we will have many and great benefits. Just as a palm tree by the water grows green and brings fruit despite all heat and cold and the like, so also all our words and works will prosper despite all enemies. Human doctrines do not have this benefit, and, as the wind blows the chaff away, so they also pass away. For God says that those who study His Word please Him, but the others He allows to perish. This psalm flows from the Third Commandment; indeed, it is part of that commandment, for the command to honor the Sabbath is itself the command to hear and learn of God’s Word. Psalm 1 is also included in the Second and Third Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer, for in these we pray for God’s kingdom and His will, both of which are conveyed by His Word.
시편 1편은 위로의 시편입니다. 이 시편은 우리에게 기쁨으로 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 배울 것과 그것으로부터 위로를 받을 것을, 그렇게 함으로써 많은 큰 유익을 얻게 될 것이라고 충고합니다. 물가에 심은 야자수가 푸르게 자라서 온갖 더위와 추위에도 불구하고 열매를 맺듯이 우리의 모든 말과 일도 모든 원수들의 대적에도 불구하고 번성할 것입니다.
인간의 교리에는 이런 유익이 없으며, 바람이 쭉정이를 날려 버리듯 그것들 또한 사라져버릴 것입니다. 하나님께서 말씀하시기를, 하나님의 말씀을 묵상/연구하는 사람은 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지만, 그렇지 않은 사람들이 망하는 것을 하나님은 허용하신다고 말씀하셨습니다.
또한 이 시편은 4계명에서도 흘러나옵니다. 실로 그것은 하나님의 계명의 한 부분입니다. 왜냐면 안식일을 거룩하게 지키라는 명령은 그 자체로 (그날에) 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 배우라는 명령이기 때문입니다. 시편 1편은 또한 주기도문의 2번째 3번째 간구에도 포함되어 있는데, 왜냐면 우리가 하나님의 나라와 그의 뜻을 위해 기도하는 이 두 가지 모두 주님의 말씀에 의해 전달된 것이기 때문입니다.
1 복되어라.
악을 꾸미는 자리에 가지 아니하고
죄인들의 길을 거닐지 아니하며
조소하는 자들과 어울리지 아니하고,
2 야훼께서 주신 법을 낙으로 삼아
밤낮으로 그 법을 되새기는 사람.
3 그에게 안 될 일이 무엇이랴!
냇가에 심어진 나무 같아서
그 잎사귀가 시들지 아니하고
제 철 따라 열매 맺으리.
4 사악한 자는 그렇지 아니하니
바람에 까불리는 겨와도 같아.
5 야훼께서 심판하실 때에
머리조차 들지 못하고,
죄인이라 의인들 모임에
끼지도 못하리라.
6 악한 자의 길은 멸망에 이르나,
의인의 길은 야훼께서 보살피신다.
1 Blessèd is the man who walks not in the
counsel of the | wicked,*
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of | scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law | of the LORD,*
and on his law he meditates | day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields
its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not | wither.*
In all that he does, he | prospers.
4 The wicked | are not so,*
but are like chaff that the wind | drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the | judgment,*
nor sinners in the congregation of the | righteous;
6 for the LORD knows the way of the | righteous,*
but the way of the wicked will | perish.
PRAYER
O God, thanks and praise belong to You because You have given us Your Holy Word. Enlighten us by Your Holy Spirit to understand Your counsel of grace in Jesus Christ, to love Your Word, and to take delight in learning Your statutes and walking in Your Law. Bestow Your blessing and prosperity on the works of our hands in our Christian calling and all our conversation. Amen.
