11-13 그러나 이 일 가운데 어떤 것도 당연한 것으로 여기지 마십시오. 불과 얼마 전까지만 해도 여러분은, 하나님의 방법에 대해서는 아무것도 알지 못하는 사람이었습니다. 그때 여러분은 하나님이 일하시는 방식이 무엇인지도 몰랐고, 그리스도가 누구신지도 전혀 알지 못했습니다.
여러분은 하나님이 이스라엘 안에 펼치신 풍성한 언약과 약속의 역사(歷史)에 대해서도 전혀 알지 못했고, 그분께서 이 세상에서 무슨 일을 하고 계신지에 대해서도 무지했습니다.
전에는 밖에 있던 여러분이 이제는, 죽음을 맞으시고 피를 흘리신 그리스도로 말미암아 안으로 들어와, 모든 일에 참여하게 되었습니다.
11 -13 But don't take any of this for granted. It was only yesterday that you outsiders to God's ways had no idea of any of this, didn't know the first thing about the way God works, hadn't the faintest idea of Christ. You knew nothing of that rich history of God's covenants and promises in Israel, hadn't a clue about what God was doing in the world at large. Now because of Christ--dying that death, shedding that blood--you who were once out of it altogether are in on everything.
14-15 메시아께서 우리 사이를 화해시키셨습니다. 이제 밖에 있던 이방인과 안에 있는 유대인 모두가 이 일에 함께하도록 하셨습니다. 그분은 우리가 서로 거리를 두기 위해 이용하던 벽을 허무셨습니다. 그분은 도움보다는 방해가 되었던, 깨알 같은 글자와 각주로 꽉 찬 율법 조문을 폐지하셨습니다.
그런 다음 전혀 새로운 출발을 하셨습니다. 그분은 오랜 세월 동안 증오와 의심에 사로잡혀 둘로 갈라져 있던 사람들을 그대로 두지 않으시고, 새로운 인류를 지으셔서, 누구나 새 출발을 하게 하셨습니다.
14-15 The Messiah has made things up between us so that we're now together on this, both non-Jewish outsiders and Jewish insiders. He tore down the wall we used to keep each other at a distance. He repealed the law code that had become so clogged with fine print and footnotes that it hindered more than it helped. Then he started over. Instead of continuing with two groups of people separated by centuries of animosity and suspicion, he created a new kind of human being, a fresh start for everybody.
16-18 그리스도께서 십자가에서 죽으심으로 우리를 화해시키셨습니다. 십자가는 우리로 하여금 서로 껴안게 했습니다. 이로써 적대 행위는 끝났습니다. 그리스도께서 오셔서, 밖에 있던 여러분에게 평화를 전하시고, 안에 있는 우리에게도 평화를 전하셨습니다. 그분께서는 우리를 동등하게 대하셨고, 우리로 하여금 동등한 사람이 되게 하셨습니다. 그분을 통해 우리 모두가 같은 성령을 받았고, 동등한 자격으로 아버지께 나아가게 되었습니다.
16-18 Christ brought us together through his death on the Cross. The Cross got us to embrace, and that was the end of the hostility. Christ came and preached peace to you outsiders and peace to us insiders. He treated us as equals, and so made us equals. Through him we both share the same Spirit and have equal access to the Father.
19-22 너무도 분명하지 않습니까? 여러분은 더 이상 떠돌이 유랑민이 아닙니다. 이 믿음의 나라가 이제 여러분의 본향입니다. 여러분은 더 이상 나그네나 이방인이 아닙니다. 여러분은 이 믿음의 나라에 속한 사람입니다. 여러분은 여느 사람 못지않게 그리스도인이라는 이름에 딱 어울리는 사람입니다.
하나님은 한 집을 짓고 계십니다. 하나님은 우리가 어떻게 이 믿음의 나라에 이르게 되었는지 따지지 않으시고, 우리 모두를 사용하셔서, 그분이 짓고 계신 그 일에 우리를 참여시키십니다. 하나님은 사도들과 예언자들을 기초로 삼으셨습니다. 이제 벽돌을 차곡차곡 쌓듯, 여러분을 그 기초 위에 끼워 넣으십니다. 그리스도 예수는 그 건물의 각 부분을 떠받치는 모퉁잇돌입니다. 우리는 날마다 그 집의 모양이 잡혀 가는 모습을 봅니다. 그 집은 하나님께서 세우시는 성전, 우리 모두가 벽돌처럼 쌓여 이루어지는 성전, 하나님께서 머무시는 성전입니다.
19-22 That's plain enough, isn't it? You're no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You're no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He's using us all--irrespective of how we got here--in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he's using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day--a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.
